RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests holds a unique and important place in the world of forestry as the primary institution for promoting community forestry in Asia and the Pacific for over 25 years. By developing the capacity of the various stakeholders – from communities to governments to non-governmental organizations and the private sector – RECOFTC works in partnership with others to improve the policies, institutions and practices of community forestry in the region.
Our alumni network consists of over 50 000 professionals. With an innovative approach to capacity development – involving research and analysis, demonstration sites and training products – RECOFTC delivers innovative solutions for people and forests.
Under the previous RAFT phases, RECOFTC built capacities of 70 forestry professionals on conflict management. Starting from a basic introductory training and evolving over phased capacity building and training events, the program continued with highly specialized courses to train trainers and develop advanced mediation capacity.
Under current RAFT phase, RECOFTC will advocate for forest policy improvements to promote sustainable forest management in Viet Nam, promote forestry multi-stakeholder dialogues in Myanmar, support teak smallholder farmers in Lao PDR to obtain ownership documentation and develop capacities for community small enterprises in Indonesia
